Just a few from a fine art baby photography session in London. I can imagine these pictures staying in the family for generations. The classic style lends itself to be an age old form of photography that I love. I have albums of black & white images from my grandparents & great grandparents. When taking a portrait was a family event. A special occasion. I love to think of these pictures being shown to this new baby girls children and grandchildren.
There is something to be said for stripping away the distractions of colour. True black & white photography can intensify the mood of an image. You tend to focus more on the little details and the subject. I’m a fan of other photographers and have studied many. I frequently visit the National Portrait Gallery & V&A. There was a recent retrospective of Julia Margaret Cameron‘ work at the V&A that I was lucky enough to visit. Not only was she one of the female pioneers of the art of photography but she also resided on the Isle of Wight. She led an incredible life in an incredible time. It’s her artistic baby & children’s portraits that I love the most.
For my baby photography sessions I don’t use too many props. I prefer to focus on the natural beauty of my subjects. However I do have a large (and growing) selection of very beautiful handmade props. I bring these with me to each session for my Clients to choose anything they would like to use. For newborns sessions I also use a baby posing unit for settling your baby comfortably. All of this is set to against the backdrop of my portable studio which I will set up in your home.
I’ve been photographing newborns and babies for over 10 years. I have techniques for settling and gently positioning your little ones safely and comfortably. For me each session is completely unique, I’m constantly learning as a photographer and finding new ways to capture those little details. One of the best parts of my work is meeting so many wonderful families. Entering into their lives at a very important time to capture these precious lasting memories.
