Newborn photography in East London

Newborn photography in East London

The happiest newborn photography session in East London! Just look at that little smile and not to mention the kiss curl on the top of her head! She is like a drawing of a baby and this photograph makes me smile so much. It also reminds me of my daughter at this age who also had the most adorable little curl. Her Daddy loved to carefully style on the top of her head. She now has many, many curls of course not just the one which she started with!

As a photographer whenever a baby smiles during a photoshoot it is like pure magic! You know when the shutter has clicked at just the right moment. it’s a wonderful feeling to know that something so special has been frozen in time.

Photographing newborn babies is truly one of the most rewarding experiences. It is also one that requires patience and consideration to the family you are with. This comes naturally but also improves with time. Understanding the different families that you meet and how they are feeling after the birth of their baby. Each photoshoot is unique which is what makes my work so completely interesting and fulfilling.

Do you ever have a very unsettled baby?

This is a question that I am asked a lot. I often sense if a new parent is feeling anxious about this when I arrive. It is completely natural, especially if you’ve had an unsettled night with your newborn baby. My answer is always the same “we have time” . Because I come to your home and I am arriving in a relaxed and calm manner with a very flexible mind the answer is always “we have time”. There will sometimes be moments when your baby is a little unsettled of course. I wouldn’t expect anything else. This is natural at this early stage (or any stage!) and I would never expect the new family or baby to be ready for me when I arrive.

I am there to work around you and your needs. I will photograph family moments when your baby wants to be held and patiently wait whilst your baby is fed and settled so that I can then carefully capture those beautiful sleepy poses. Awake shots are also wonderful too like this happy baby photographed at her home in East London.

With over 12 years experience working with babies I have learnt to follow the lead of the baby. I feel I can respond to how they are when I settle them and their comfort and safety is always my priority. This approach really helps me to capture beautiful natural portraits.

I am always happy to chat to you in more detail to explain how I work. for newborn photography enquiries please contact me here

Family Photography in London

Family Photography in London

This is a moment captured between a father & his son during a family photography session in London. I wanted to add both of these images to my blog. I love the before and after moment. How they are both so lost in the moment and the natural ease they have with each other. If only the sound of his giggles were recorded as well!

Side by side these two images work beautifully. His little boy’s face as he receives a kiss from his father in the first portrait and then the gentle snuggling into each other in the second. I absolutely love capturing moments like these. The simplicity of the beautiful black and white portraits draw you into the image. A moment in time captured for them to look back on in years to come.

Family photography at home in London

This photo shoot actually took place at their home to welcome their newborn baby girl into the world. As always with my newborn photoshoots I incorporate lots of time for family photography and of course sibling photography.

When I arrived at their home I received the warmest welcome! I had been lucky enough to photograph their son when he was born and it felt like I was returning to see old friends. We chatted a lot about what we had all been up to. Caught up with a nice cup of tea and it was lovely to see Mum again after all this time with her newborn baby.

It is always wonderful to return to visit a family as they grow. To add pictures to their family albums and to record special times such as the birth of a new member of the family or simply to record the changes in their children.

What stage would you like to photograph?

I am often asked, is it too late? When my Client’s call to book a newborn photoshoot a little later than the recommended first 3 weeks. My answer is it is never too late to capture beautiful images of your children. They are certainly not too big and you have not missed the “window”. The window of time is endless when you want photographs of your family to look back on. The photographs you have then capture that moment in time and will become irreplaceable.

When and how to book a family photoshoot?

Contact me via my booking page and I will be more than happy to help. I would love to hear about your family and arrange a time that is convenient for you all. I will come to your home to ensure everything runs smoothly on the day.

A wonderful Baby Photography session in Forest Hill London

Travelling to the leafy corners of Forest Hill for a baby photography session was full of memories for me. When I moved to London many years ago I settled in South East London. Mostly because my sister had attended Camberwell University of Arts and was already living in Nunhead. So this was the beginning of my London journey!

Little did I know then that my Grandparents were born and raised in Lewisham and so I was in fact returning to my routes. I also didn’t know that my sister and I would in the future have our babies in Lewisham. In a way we came full circle back to our london routes and walk in the footsteps of our family before us. It is funny how things work out!

Whenever I have a photoshoot in South East London there are always many precious memories for me. Particularly in Forest Hill and the surrounding areas.

When travelling to my Forest Hill baby photography session I drove past the incredible Horniman Museum. If you know Forest Hill then you will without a doubt know this iconic building and the stunning gardens around it. I have spent countless days there with my children over the years. It is fantastic. I feel like we have explored every corner but I could do it again and again without ever getting bored!

Arriving at my Baby Photography Session in Forest Hill

On this occasion though I was not in Forest Hill to see the Walrus or visit the aquarium! I was there to photograph a very sweet newborn baby and his family. As always with my newborn baby photoshoots I was arriving at the home of the family with my portable studio. It also happened to be one of the hottest days of the year and so I was grateful that they had blissful air-conditioning in their beautiful Forest Hill home!

I’ve chosen one picture from this baby photoshoot to share with you today. I think it shows just how wonderfully peaceful he was throughout our photoshoot! We even managed to get a fabulous picture with the family Husky at the end!

Kind Words

” We had a newborn shoot with Elle when our son was a few weeks old following a bad experience with another photographer. Elle was amazing from the start; kind, calm, patient, professional and clearly a pro at what she does. We proceeded to have an amazing shoot and she has provided us with absolutely stunning photographs that we will treasure forever! Cannot recommend Elle enough (and have recommended her to friends who have used her and been over the moon with her work) and will 100% be using her for future shoots.”

Capturing portraits of fathers during a baby photography session in West London

I loved returning to photograph this family and their second newborn baby at their home in West London. The first time I met them was 4 years ago to photograph their first baby. It is always an honour and a compliment to be asked to return and continue the tradition.

There are a multitude of pictures I would like to share from this photoshoot but as I only usually share one picture per blog I’ve chosen to focus on a fatherhood portrait. With every photoshoot I combine a mixture of family portraits, newborn portraits, mother & baby, father & baby and of course sibling photography. I want to capture every aspect of that moment in time in the most beautiful way possible.

For me timeless black & white photography always brings me joy. I never tire of creating shots like these. The beauty and simplicity of a pure black and white photograph speaks to me more than any other.

When photographing Dads with newborns I like to show the scale of the baby. One of the best ways to do this is to create this beautiful “tiger in the woods” sleeping pose. With Dad gently holding his new baby in his arm like the branch of a tree. I guess with the passing of time there really is only a very small window when your baby fits into this position. It is heaven to capture a shot like this and to see it take shape in my editing suite after the photoshoot.

Baby photography in West London – fatherhood portrait

The beauty of this shot is the size of his hands cupping his babies head and her little arms and legs dangling down. I love everything about this moment and can see it being treasured and admired for many years to come. I think the face that it is black & white draws you into the portrait even more. Focussing on the babies exquisite features and the gentle caring expression on her fathers face. I always look for moments like these in every photoshoot I do. I’m looking to capture that moment for the parents that they will hold onto forever.

Baby Photography in Dulwich

Beautiful Baby Photography in Dulwich

I am so happy to share this beautiful newborn picture from a recent baby photography session in Dulwich. When asked to photograph a newborn at home my first thought is always; how to make this experience as easy as possible for the new parents. With beautiful photographs of their baby to treasure forever. I have been photographing newborn babies in London and beyond for over 12 years now and so it is safe to say that I’ve learnt a few key techniques over the years!

As a baby photographer it is important that you have patience, understanding an ability to put people at ease and of course an eye for detail and a beautiful shot. Some of these can be learnt over time and through experience. But I think mostly it has to be part of your character.

What I love most about being a newborn, baby and family photographer in London is that each photoshoot and each family I meet are completely unique. I am lucky to meet and work with so many wonderful families. As many of you who have met me will know I love getting to know people. Perhaps this is why I have been working in this field for so long! A large part of what I do is definitely driven by the desire to produce something lasting for the families I photograph. A truly special and original photograph of their new baby, children or family to cherish and pass down from generation to generation.

Baby photography at home in Dulwich

I was first contacted by Dad for to book this photoshoot after the excitement of the birth of his beautiful little baby! He explained to me that they were in the middle of building work at their Dulwich home. I was glad to tell him that this is no problem for me or for the newborn portraits as I will bring my portable studio to their home. This enables me to create the perfect backdrops and settings without any distractions of the background. In this case it meant that we could find a calm room in the house away from the building work to create our private newborn studio.

With my suitcase of delicate, handmade baby outfits there was no need for the new parents to prepare anything. As always I want everyone to relax and enjoy the session.

This is one of the many newborn pictures captured during our photoshoot. I wanted to share this today as I think it is so simple and sweet. The little shorts and teddy bear hat are, of course, provided by me. The baby is sleeping happily on my soft beanbag and fabric backdrop. Tiny & perfect.

Won’t this look stunning framed in their Dulwich home when all the building work is completed!
