A couple of my favourite shots from an ‘older’ Baby Photography Session in Highbury & Islington with this bright eyed little girl. A pure delight to photograph at their home, this darling girl was full of giggles and sparkle as I had asked her Mummy to let me know the best time of day for our session to fit with her nap schedule.
With baby’s and toddlers there is a smaller window of time when they have the energy for a photoshoot so it helps to be at home where we can take little breaks and play with their toys, grab snacks from the kitchen and sing plenty of their favourite songs! I like to time the session to fit with the best time of day for them and often keep a baby session fairly short, usually a maximum of two hours as I find this is plenty to capture lots of expressions and leave in time for them to settle down to their lunch or dinner.
Yesterday I was in Canary wharf to photograph a gorgeous 19month old toddler and his shyness was soon forgotten once we played with his cars and puzzles in his beautiful and comfortably familiar room.
Today I’ll be in Waterloo for a Newborn session with a three week old, which will be very different to the energy levels involved during one of my baby sessions! Newborn sessions last between 3 – 4 hours depending on how often the new baby needs to feed, change and be soothed. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed and when older siblings are involved I often start the session whilst they have been taken out with Grandparents or are at nursery so that I can capture the key newborn shots first and then focus on the sibling and family shots once they arrive home. This helps to reduce the time the older child has to take part in the session and saves them waiting around whilst we position their newborn baby brother or sister.
Each session is completely different and I never restrict my time, only booking one session per day so that you will never find me rushing off to my next appointment, I’ll be there until we have all the shots.
