A gorgeous little newborn baby cradled safely in her mummy’s hands, taken at a newborn photography session in Camden. Looking perfect in one of my beautiful angora bonnets.
Some inspiration for me before I head out to my newborn shoot this morning. I love photographing the first weeks after a baby is born. They are so precious, changing dramatically before your eyes over the coming weeks.
I like to crate a calm atmosphere in each session. Travelling to my Clients home after the birth is an important part of creating a relaxed portrait experience. I have years of experience handling newborns. Their safety is my priority. I carefully position them for each picture using my newborn studio. I work with the baby and help them to find their own natural position then work with that. If they don’t like something, I’ll try a different pose. I spend a lot of time comforting and soothing them and ensuring they feel safe. It is important that the room we have the session in is warm. This isn’t so difficult in the Summer months but in the winter the heating must be on. The room must be comfortable but not too hot. If windows and doors are open I will often close them to keep out any drafts.
This session was just wonderful. We took a series of beautiful classic black & white family shots. These included pictures with older siblings and mother & baby portraits. Other newborn examples can be found here.
I’ve just finished making the beautiful gift album for their Dad and Grandparents.
