I’ve been busy burning the midnight oil this week, retouching my most recent pregnancy and newborn photography sessions. Working through these beautiful bump pictures is making me feel nostalgic. I keep being transported back to that feeling of becoming a mother for the first time.
I loved being pregnant with my two children and I quite often miss my bump. The first few weeks after giving birth to my daughter was a very strange feeling. I missed feeling her move inside me and having spoken to my Clients I know many mothers share this feeling.
I think Ursula Rose sums up some of the things I miss about being pregnant perfectly in her blog post here. It’s a very natural feeling. Being pregnant is one of the most defining times in a womans life. My Mum visited me this week and it was lovely to chat to her about how becoming a mother changes you. Your priorities change. You have to learn to care for and protect a little human 24 hours a day every day. It can be overwhelming at times. Whenever I’m having a challenging day I like to try and see the world through their eyes. It helps to transport yourself back to being a child and immerse yourself in their world. I’ve learnt so much through them. I’d love to freeze their childhood and keep it forever.
I think capturing the beauty of pregnancy in a portrait is a great way to celebrate this incredible time. Sometimes the simplest shot does that. Like this gorgeous picture I took of “just the bump”. The lace I’ve used for this picture looks so romantic. It has a classic & elegant feel and what a beautiful bump!
