Mother & Baby portraits
Photographing a mother and her new baby is one of the greatest joys of newborn photography. My newborn photography sessions take place in my Client’s home during the first 1-3 weeks following birth. When everything is very, very new for both the parents and their newborn baby. With this in mind, it is always my aim to put everyone at ease as soon as I walk through the door. To ensure the photoshoot is relaxed and calm for the new family. Travelling to their home so that they don’t have to leave the front door and can continue to rest and ‘nest’ with their new baby is definitely a major factor in this.
I am able to create a studio in homes of all shapes and sizes. The first thing I do when I arrive is to find the best space in the home for my studio. Ensuring it will be intimate for the parent portraits, well lit and warm for the new baby. I bring numerous handmade newborn outfits with me and I often show them to the parents before we start so that they can choose their favourite pieces. All my outfits are super soft – perfect for baby’s delicate skin.
I remember the early weeks following the birth of my daughter. I actually didn’t leave the house for the first three weeks and when I did I was so very nervous! Pushing my new precious little girl in the pram, worrying that she might start crying or I would need to feed her in public! I remember it as if it was yesterday. Like all parents, I needed time to recover from birth and time to get used to being a Mum. These thoughts are at the forefront of my mind at every photoshoot.
Newborn Photography at home in South East London
This picture was taken at a recent newborn photography session at home with a family in South East London. A first time Mum cuddling her beautiful baby. There is so much tenderness in this shot and love. It makes me happy every time I look at it.
